Abstract:

Frame transfer CCDs are the most commonly selected imaging detectors for spaceborne framebased
imaging remote sensors, and their image quality is influenced by numerous factors. Therefore, it is essential to investigate the key factors affecting the degradation of frame transfer CCD imaging and their
respective impacts on remote sensing image quality. This paper first analyzes the generation mechanisms
of major degradation factors and establishes corresponding models, including photon Poisson noise
model, dark current and dark current noise model, and frame transfer effect model unique to frame
transfer CCDs. Then on this basis, the remote sensor parameters are set as typical imaging parameters,
and an assessment model for remote sensing image quality is constructed by combining the three different
dimensions of indicators, namely average gradient, information entropy, and two-dimensional power
spectrum coefficient based on the analytic hierarchy process. Finally, the image quality assessment
coefficient is employed to evaluate relative changes in image quality. Numerical matrix analysis results
indicate that among the three degradation factors, photon Poisson noise exerts the greatest influence on
the image quality evaluation coefficient, resulting in a 41.80% decrease, followed by dark current and
dark current noise, while frame transfer effect has the smallest impact. This image quality assessment
model can objectively evaluate the influence of degradation factors on image quality and thus can be
widely applied in performance testing of imaging remote sensing instruments, on-orbit remote sensing
data quality evaluation, imaging circuit performance assessment and fault diagnosis, data preprocessing
evaluation and so on.
