Abstract: A new mechanism to achieve optical delay is proposed. A unidirectional compound waveguide with some unidirectional edge loops in the waveguide is constructed. The one-way transmission and the constructive interference effect make these loops have perfect transmission when electromagnetic waves propagate through them. These loops lead to an optical delay because of the enlarged propagation distance. Such waveguide has compound functions, such as one-way transmission, time delay and the function robust to scatter loss. The frequency-domain and time-domain simulations demonstrate the perfect transmission and the time delay functions, respectively. The unique waveguide has delay waveguide is that it can overcome the scatter loss.
