Abstract: A Y-branch structure which introduces input waveguide, broading waveguide and wide transition waveguide is designed, the insertion loss of this Y-branch structure is sharply reduced. This Y-branch structure is extended to a 1×8 planar lightwave circuits (PLC) optical power splitter through OptiBPM software. Finally, the output performance of the 1×8 PLC optical power splitter affected by waveguide refractivity, arc waveguide length, branching angle and input wavelength is respectively researched, and according to the best parameters for each item, the 1×8 PLC optical power splitter is optimized. The simulation results show that the insertion loss and channel output uniformity of the 1×8 PLC optical power splitter is found to be 9.96dB and 0.41dB. The results show that the device design parameters and performances not only fully meet the requirements of mass production, but have a high reference value for the design and production process of optical power splitter.
