Abstract: The rotational Doppler effect caused by structured light is the basic mechanism of rotational velocity measurement. However, the general time-beat signal measurement method based on frequency difference can only measure the rotation speed, but can not obtain the information of rotation direction. Therefore, this paper presents a direction-sensitive rotational speed measurement scheme for microparticles, based on the modulation of vector vortex light fields. This scheme marks the signals by amplitude modulation, distinguishes the signals modulated based on rotational Doppler frequency shift due to spin angular momentum from the unmodulated signals, and ultimately realizes the simultaneous measurement of rotation speed and rotation direction with the help of known modulation frequency difference information. This novel modulation detection method is concise, convenient and efficient, and has potential applications in particle manipulation and detection.
