Abstract:

In order to overcome some deficiencies of the traditional optic fiber chemical sensor, the intrinsic optic fiber chemical sensor based on evanescent wave theory is proposed. The relationship between sensitivity and geometrical structure parameters, the refractive index of solution were calculated and analyzed based ray theory. The sensor of different structure parameters was fabricated with chemical corrosion method, the experimental system was designed and the experimental study was carried out for these sensors using the methylene blue solution. The experimental results is concordant with numerical results, and the thinner, the longer the sensing area is, the higher the sensitivity is. The bear core is so thin that the fiber is break off easily. For improve the sensitivity, decrease the diameter of sensor less and increase the length of sensor is a effective method.
