Abstract: We proposed and demonstrated a novel fiber-optic current sensor based on a nested fiber grating, which is composed of Bragg grating and long period grating. The surface of the nested fiber grating was sputtered with a layer of high resistance Ni-Fe alloy. The current test shows that such a sensor has a high current sensitivity of 7.2×10-2 nm/mA. Its properties of the simple structure, compact size and low-cost imply that the proposed fiber current sensor is suitable for the fiber-optic current monitoring applications.
